Why Isn't CBD Working For Me?

Why Isn't CBD Working For Me?

News and social media can oftentimes overextend the possibilities and benefits of CBD. This leaves the average consumer questioning why CBD is not working for them. While it may seem like CBD is not working, it may be because of the misconception that the media can cause in regards to CBD. Here are five reasons CBD might not be working for you.

  • High Quality Product and Reputable Sources

It is not secret that CBD products can be found almost everywhere, including gas stations and video rental stores. Not saying it is not a possibility, but it is most likely that purchasing CBD products from a place like a gas station will not get you the highest quality. Reading CBD product reviews offers helpful insight into reputable sources but it shouldn't be the only test of quality. Consumers often do not know where to start when deciding if a source is reputable, however, there are certain steps that can be taken to determine if the source is reputable.

Where the CBD company gets their hemp

Knowing if the hemp that is used is grown in pesticide and herbicide free soil is a good start. Pesticides, herbicides, and other harmful contaminants such as heavy metals can be toxic to human consumption. Not only knowing if the soil that the hemp is grown is free from these harmful contaminants but also knowing if the hemp is tested for possible contamination before the extraction process is beneficial to the consumer.

Identify the active and inactive ingredients of the CBD product

False advertising leads the consumer to believe that there is more CBD in a product than there actually is. Cannabinoids, terpenes, and carrier oils should be listed as active ingredients in the CBD product. Acceptable inactive ingredients include artificial flavouring and carrier oils. Be aware that some artificial flavouring can cause sensitivities to some consumers. A big red flag is any CBD product that lists propylene glycol as an ingredient. Propylene glycol, at high temperatures, can degrade into formaldehyde.

Third Party Testing

Any reputable CBD company has third party testing. Being accredited by a reputable third party offers an unbiased perspective and ensures that the product reflects its label.

  • Low and Slow: Building It Up In Your System

Since there is no federally approved dosing guideline for CBD, finding your “sweet spot” often takes time. A mistake that some consumers make not giving enough time for the CBD to build up in their system. Dosing is tricky and varies greatly between individuals so starting low and slow is a reliable way to introduce CBD to your body. Many consumers find it helpful to keep a journal with dates, dosage, and outcomes. Over time, this allows the user to visually identify how long and at what dose is effective for the desired effect. This process takes time and patience. The benefit may not be instant but if no benefit is experienced within a month of consistent use and dose, it may be time to look at other forms of CBD.

  • CBD Products and the Right Fit for You

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to CBD products. From ingestibles like tinctures, oil, and edibles to topicals like lotions, bath bombs, and patches, there is no scarcity of CBD delivery modes. Knowing yourself and understanding your body will allow you to make an informed decision in regards to what delivery method best fits you. If your chosen method has been ineffective for at least a month even after consistent use, it would be beneficial to look at other options.

  • CBD: Just Not For You

As disappointing as it may seem, CBD may not be for you. Despite trial and error, some consumers are faced with the idea that their bodies just don't respond effectively to CBD. Our bodies all have different metabolism that respond to CBD in various ways. Genetics also can play a role in whether or not our bodies respond positively to CBD. Talking with reputable sources like your local manufacturer and health provider when you are faced with this can offer alternative products that may be more beneficial.

The Educated Consumer

Before trying any CBD product, it is always suggested that you discuss this with your healthcare provider. Consumers are individuals and what works for one, may not work for another. Educating yourself through research, using a daily journal, and discussing with your healthcare provider are the beginning steps to finding the right CBD product. After those steps are taken, you are ready to try CBD. Patience and time when you begin a new product will give you a better idea of if CBD is right for you. Though it may be disappointing, understand that CBD is not for everyone. Good news is there are many other holistic therapies available.
